Colin Shields has been a DJ for 8 years. He has achieved notoriety within the Irish club scene due to his phenomenal talent for getting a crowd whipped into a frenzy of techno appreciation.
He has played alongside, held his own, and many times has outplayed some of the greatest names in techno .... Andrew Weatherall, Ken Ishii, Darren Price, Luke Slater, CJ Bolland, Claude Young, Adam Beyer, DJ Wada, Colin Dale, Christian Smith, The Surgeon, James Ruskin, Stacey Pullen, Claude Young and Charlie Hall, to name a few.
His musical preferences would be summed up by the phrases "deep & banging", "funky as fuck", and "groovin' loops". For 4 and a half years he was the resident techno DJ at Evolution, in The Brunswick, Belfast, and became well known for teasing the crowds with '3-decks, efx & 505' displays. He has also played the legendary Art College, Belfast, with CJ Bolland, as part of his Human Traffic Tour.
He has had a 1/2 hour session played on Radio Ulster's Thursday night show, Across the Line, and other radio appearances include several mixes on Dublin's Power FM, as well as on worldwide Ministry Radio, with John Askew, in June 2002. Until recently you could also catch him every week on his own show on Groove 101FM, but it has shutdown for the time being.
September 2000 saw him play the legendary Checkpoint Charlie with Mat Carter, with bookings at Planet Love 2000, and in Sardinia, playing to 3000 people. This along with a couple of dates in New York during the Summer of 2000, put him well truly on the map. 2001 saw Colin playing at Mono, Switch in Dublin, Musiklab at Waterford and in The Riverside Club, in Glasgow, all to exceptional receptions, resulting in return bookings, and the start of the Irish conquest. His name is now synonymous with slammin techno sets across Ireland. 2002 has been a great year for him to date, with a lot more studio experience and releases penciled in for later this year, with Red Label Records & Nice & Nasty records, along with many more bookings.
But not to be predictable Colin has now diversified his styles of DJing to accommodate his changing taste in music. With his new residency at Mode, at The Edge, in Belfast, Colin is delving into his housier side and playing a fantastic blend of good party tunes, and deep grooving music … the perfection carries across without effort. Colin, AKA King Ging, is most definitely a man to watch, because the tidal wave is building and it is going to rip roar round this globe.
